Let’s see now, what’s your favorite color? Is it indigo blue, fire engine red, green, yellow, purple, or maybe orange? Well, once you have figured that out, go to the store and purchase a bow in the color of your liking. After you’ve completed that task, place the bow somewhere very close to your heart. Perhaps you may want to purchase more than one bow, because in this instant, re-gifting is definitely politically correct. Then, decide who will be the recipient(s) of the perfect gift, YOU! Okay, if you believe that to be too extreme, forget about the bow. It is man who looks on the outward appearance, but God looketh on the hearts of men.
This is the season which puts us into the frame of mind to give. Some individuals will give until it hurts, literally. Some will spend money they don’t have. They will be paying for gifts for years to come, that were purchased on credit. Ostensibly at the time, it appeared to be the right thing to do. However, so many individuals would appreciate the intangible gifts, so much more so than the gifts which were purchased in the aforementioned ways. The individuals I’m speaking of are Senior Citizens, the widowed, the orphaned, the homeless, those who are sick and shut in, and those who are bedridden, isolated, and lonely. Many spend the vast majority of their days without companionship. They long to hear a knock at the door, and to see a smiling face. They long to have someone to talk to, to listen to them, and for someone to simply show they care. They long to feel loved and not forgotten. They long to be blessed with the gift of your time. Have you thought about being the perfect gift for someone during this season and beyond? Loneliness doesn’t cease to exist after the holiday season ends. So many live this existence year round. It is a sad commentary, that many who are able to reach out and touch the lives of individuals who are in dire need of compassion, sit passively by and do nothing. The Scriptures have much to teach us on this subject.
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12) Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2) But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. (Hebrews 13:16) But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? (I John 3:17) Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:4-8)
My brothers and sisters, always remember Jesus was our perfect example, that we should follow in His steps. Remember to love one another. As you are blessed, strive to be a blessing to others. Don’t let an opportunity to be the perfect gift to someone pass you by. There are so many facilities in dire need of volunteers, as they attempt to provide services to those in need of help, year-round. There are friends, family members and neighbors, who are also waiting to hear the telephone ring, or to hear a knock at the door. Remember, these are opportunities to present to those who are hurting, the GREATEST GIFT OF ALL, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! May the Lord bless you abundantly, today and everyday!
