Prelude to Worship – Cultivating An Attitude of Worship

21How do we begin to cultivate an attitude of worship? Initially, we should look into our heart. God created man with a deep craving that he alone can fill. In fact, we were created for His pleasure, to worship Him. How do we come to understand and accept man’s intrinsic need to worship God. Only as we acknowledge the emptiness that cries for worship can the unrest within us be settled. Our search for God will be most meaningful and effective when we recognize our emptiness apart from Him.” (Power in Praise and Worship – Dr. David Mendez)

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” (Matthew 22:37) The greatest way we can worship our God, is to live a life which honors Him. We honor God by walking uprightly before Him; by walking according to His ordinances. We honor God by surrendering our will, and living according to His will. We strive to please Him and not our flesh, because we love Him more than we love ourselves; because we are in a love relationship with Him. We seek to please Him in all that we do, in all that we say, and in all that we are. Cultivating an attitude of worship begins with the condition of the heart. It is a heart matter. We are commanded to love the Lord with all of our souls and minds. Whether or not one is simply religious, or in a heart relationship with God is key to true worship of Him. It is vitally important that we not say one thing, and do another. To say that we love the Lord, and not abide according to His will, which is outlined in His Word is hypocrisy. Luke 6:46 says, “And why call me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” We must also seek to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. Let us therefore, begin to prepare our hearts for worship. Let us begin to cultivate an attitude of worship. Let us draw nigh unto God with a pure heart, and a ready mind to serve and worship Him only.

  1. Such good words, Sister Paulette–I can always feel the Spirit of worship when I come here, so soothing with HIS peace. God bless you–love, sis Caddo

    • Thank you so much, Francine! The song pointed my heart towards worship, and I lifted my hand and voice in praise! What a blessing! Have a wonderful day! 🙂

    • Hello David,

Thank you so much for stopping by, and for commenting. To God be the glory, and may His name be lifted high! God bless you!

  2. Oh praising Paulette, this was so helpful! Thank you! I liked the looking into our hearts . . .that emptiness that is there without worship of Him. There is a song by Toby Mac . .. the lyrics go something like ” I was made to love You, I was made to find You, I was made just for You, waiting to adore You, yes I was made for love . .and to be loved by You.” God bless you as you help us to prepare our hearts to enter into worship here tomorrow and everyday!
    love and prayers!

  3. We are made to worship. There is an empty place inside of everyone, and when that emptiness is NOT filled with the Lord, we will NEVER be satisfied. My life changed completely when He filled my vacuum, and it is my delight to worship the One who alone is worthy.

    Thanks for the ‘prelude’ Paulette.
