Light Up the World

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8). Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12). Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all in the house.

Such a festive time of the year! Everywhere you go, there is beauty all around! There are vivid colors all around, and beautiful lights everywhere! It’s unfortunate, however, that with all of the festivities and beauty in the world at this time of year, many have forgotten the REAL reason for the season! Many children are being introduced to Santa Claus, for the first time! They are being told stories of how Santa will place many gifts under the Christmas tree! Rather than telling the children about the REAL reason for the season, they are being misled with stories of the guy, who will squeeze down their chimneys, with lots and lots of gifts! It is time to revisit the TRUE REASON for the season! JESUS is the TRUE REASON for the season! Jesus, God incarnate, “Being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Jesus is the light of the world! He came into the world, to suffer vicariously for us, on Calvary’s Cross! He came to suffer and to die, that we might live with Him, throughout eternity! JESUS is the TRUE REASON for the season.

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the King, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East, and are come to worship Him (Matthew 2:1-2). A star is: any of the heavenly bodies, except the moon, appearing as fixed luminous points in the sky, at night. We, the believers, are the lights of the world! We are those cities, which are set upon a hill, that cannot be hid. We should be as the star, that led the wise men to Jesus. Our lights should shine so brightly, that sinners are drawn to us, desiring to know what they must do to be saved! The light of the Lord that shineh through us, should eradicate the darkness of this world, that is all around us. Matthew 4:16-17 says, “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, life is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Today, we should be those beautiful lights, that are telling everybody, about somebody, who can save anybody! Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven!” Upon entering a room, do you light up the room, because the glory, or resplendent beauty and magnificence of the Lord, is upon you? So many homes are adorned beautifully with elaborate lighting displays. Each time you enter a store, your eyes are captivated by the beauty of the season! Such a beautiful outward show! It brings to mind, the Pharisees. They wanted to have an appearance, or an outward show of righteousness. Matthew 23:27-28 says, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like white sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” It is up to the Christians, the true believers in Jesus Christ, to illuminate the world with the light of the Lord that shineth within us! Psalms 149:4-5 says, “For the LORD taketh pleasure in His people: He will beautify the meet with salvation. Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.”

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:8-11) Let your light shine brightly, and tell of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! God bless!

  2. Amen to the word. This is a time of reflection upon the birth of Jesus and what it really means. Thank God for sending his son to redeem us from sin. I always want to remember the REASON FOR THE SEASON !!!
    God Bless.

    • Hello Valencia,
Because so many get caught up in the season, for many of the wrong reasons, it is up to the saints of the Most High, to keep Christ at the core of this festive time of year! We can never let the world forget, that Jesus came humbly into the world, to suffer on the cross, to die, and to rise again, that we might live! We should be the bright stars, that lead others to Christ!
      God bless you!!

  3. Hey Paula: when are you going to write more. Jesus is the reason for the season. If we all felt that way, the world would be a better place. (write more) smile.

    • Hi Gerry,

I definitely agree with your comment. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. It’s much appreciated. Stop by again. Jesus is the reason for the season! God bless!

  4. We, the Believers, have been charged with letting our lights so shine before all men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father who art in Heaven! As I walk the streets or the malls, I am bombarded with lights! White lights. Bright lights. Colorful lights. They all seem to lift your spirits and get you “in the holiday spirit”. Of course, the stores hope that the decorations will attract shoppers to leave their cash behind (LOL) but I just thought for a moment of how beautiful the world would be if we, all God’s children, would let our lights shine everyday and every where we go! Our lights, just as the lights in the stores, would attract onlookers. Just as people go into stores to get a better look, people would be coming to us to see Jesus! And as shoppers, they will not leave empty handed! In exchange for unbelief, despair, broken hearts, God will give you peace that passeth all understanding, joy like a river, and unconditional love!

    • Another great comment! Also, a great analogy. We should adorn ourselves with the glory of God, so that onlookers will want to take a second and a third look, to see just what the beauty is all about. Not outer beauty, but the inner beauty that will shine through, when we are filled with His Spirit. When we have captivated the attention of the onlookers, we must be ready and able, to offer unto them a reason, for the glory that shines through us, as well as the hope that we have, beyond this world!

Thank you again, for stopping by. I look forward to hearing from you, again soon. Take care.

  5. I enjoyed this post, “Light Up the World”, for indeed we are the light of the world!! And that’s our purpose, that’s what God placed us here for and that is to be an example to the world. We are ambassadors for Christ, so that means we are representing him. Just like with certain jobs you have to represent your company to a buyer (s) and the most important thing that you are concerned about is making sure you make a lasting, and great impression on them, hoping that they will come over and experience your product, or line of service. The same with being example, you want the world to experience the blessings and glory of God!!! Truly enjoyed!!

    • I loved your comment! I enjoyed the way you expounded upon the fact, that we, the body of Christ, are actually ambassadors for Christ! So many saints, do not take that to heart, and they don’t realize the awesome responsibility that is placed on us, to represent the Creator and giver of life! The example that you used about representing your company, was excellent! I was truly blessed! Thank you so much for sharing! God bless you! Great job!
